Flooring and Cabinets

Most of the flooring has been laid – laminate in the bedrooms, dining and living areas. (The hall and stairs will be done at the end to preserve the condition) and tiling in the kitchen, bathrooms and entry. They have the upper cabinets hung in the kitchen and the island put in. I picked out hard ware for the cabinet doors today, which are oil rubbed bronze to tie in with the light fixtures I ordered. We also picked out the appliances which should be ordered in the next couple of days! The deck is still awaiting stairs, but otherwise is complete! Slowly but surely…

The start of Finishing!

Finishing has begun!! It’s SO exciting. They started laying the flooring today – laminate throughout bedrooms and living areas, and vinyl tiling in the bathrooms and kitchens. We are SO exciting with the colors – the little samples looked pretty neat, but seeing in an entire room is even better! This is the laminate all laid in the master bedroom already:

And they’ve started laying the vinyl in the main bath and the kitchen. The cool part of this is that even though it’s vinyl, they lay it like tile and even grout it, so it looks just like tile!!

They even got one lonely corner cabinet hung in our kitchen!!

The bad news however, (there’s got to be at least one glitch in every system, right?!), is that someone managed to put a forklift through our lazy Susan, which means none of the lower cabinets can be installed until we get a new one…which apparently, is 3 weeks out!

Deck

After some research, we decided against rebar in the decking, as with our fabulous rainy weather, the amount of rusting that would happen was worrisome. Rather, we decided on copper piping. I had a really hard time visualizing this, but now that it’s up, I absolutely LOVE it! Thanks to Andy and his uncle for their wonderful idea!! Finishing should begin in the next day or so….

Paint and decking

The paint officially got under way last week, and as of Friday, they had done the ceilings and walls, and just had to cut in and detail the edges. We are so happy with the color we chose…I think everyone thought we were nuts with how dark it looked at first, but it actually dried to be not very dark at all. Pictures don’t do it justice, but you can sort of see the contrast against the white ceilings. For cost efficiency, the painters are only doing the kitchen,

The contractors are making great progress on the deck. We might ask if we can have re-bar replace some of the picketing so the view is not so obstructed. This is the progress they’ve made so far…

Ahhhh…my beautiful country! Wish I could be there to celebrate, but here’s my little tribute on her big Day instead!
